Reactivated 25 Sep 1957 as 480th Fighter-Bomber Squadron of 366th Fighter-Bomber (later, 366th Tactical Fighter) Wing. Redesignated 480th Tactical Fighter Squadron on 1 Jul 1958.

STATION: England AFB, LA.

AIRCRAFT: F-100, F-84.

Became the first tactical unit in the 366th Fighter Bomber Wing to transition to the F-100 "Super Sabre". On completion of this transition in 1958, some 480th pilots were also flying exercises with F-84s. With its redesignation as a tactical fighter squadron in 1958, the 480th entered a continuous program of training exercises, including long-distance refueling, navigation, and low-level bombing missions. In Jan 1959 the 480th received orders transferring its aircraft and equipment to other organizations. The last 480th aircraft left England AFB on 16 Feb 59 and the squadron inactivated on 1 Apr 1959.
