The 480FS began life as the as the as the 480th Bombardment Squadron (Medium), assigned to the 336th Bombardment Group, which was constituted on 9 Jul 1942 and activated on 15 Jul 1942.  The squadron served as a B-26 Marauder Replacement Training Unit (RTU), and was stationed at MacDill Field, FL (15 Jul 1942), Ft. Myers, FL (10 Aug 1942), Avon Park, FL (13 Dec 1942), MacDill Field, FL (13 Oct 1943), Lake Charles AAFld, LA (8 Nov 1943 to 1 May 1944).  The squadron was disbanded on 1 May 1944.  They earned the American Theater (WWII) Service Streamer.
